Dinesh Burrenchobay Appointed Part-Time President of the MTPA

Dinesh Burrenchobay has been appointed as the part-time president of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) following the dismissal of Claire Le Lay in November 2025.

Rupesh Gujadhur has also been appointed as the part-time president of the Tourism Employees Welfare Fund. These decisions were confirmed during the Cabinet meeting on Friday, December 5, 2025.

Burrenchobay's appointment comes amid a tense atmosphere. The former MTPA president, Claire Le Lay, was dismissed by the Minister of Tourism, Richard Duval, officially due to dissatisfaction with the organization’s management. However, some sources suggest that her dismissal was linked to an unauthorized trip to the World Travel Market in London, which violated the Ministry of Finance's regulations. This dismissal was in addition to the termination of three other director contracts, including that of Jocelyn Kwok from the Mauritius Hotel and Restaurant Association.
