Irshad Laulloo Appointed President of the Financial Intelligence Unit

On Thursday, December 4, President Dharambeer Gokhool officially announced the appointment of Mohammad Irshad Cassam Laulloo (CSK) as the head of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) for a three-year term. This decision, made under Article 12 (2) of the Financial Intelligence and Anti-Money Laundering Act, follows a recommendation from Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam, in consultation with the opposition leader.

The FIU is a pillar in the fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism. It plays a crucial role in the context of increased vigilance against illicit financial flows.

Irshad Laulloo previously served as a magistrate at the Port Louis District Court. He was also the chairman of the Assessment Review Committee from 2003 until January 2024.
