[PTR vs MMM] All's Well That Ends Well
Two key issues that the ruling parties must prioritize following their mandate are to emphasize 'change and rupture,' which was their campaign slogan during the last elections. Thus, these policies must be implemented and made visible.
The public, tired of the previous government's politics, yearned for genuine change with the arrival of the 'Alliance du Changement' government. The new administration should avoid the mistakes of its predecessor and make bold, wise decisions in appointing individuals to crucial positions. Failing to do so would be akin to putting old wine into new bottles. Compensating the inner circle is a relic of the past, deeply disliked by the populace. The outcome of the 60-0 election can be attributed to such reprehensible practices of the former regime.
A rift has emerged within the government, specifically between the two main parties, the MMM and PTR, due to several recent disagreements. However, after repeated negotiations, a reconciliation occurred. It is understood that a marriage is followed by a honeymoon, and when discord arises, things can turn sour. We hope that this bitterness will vanish from their troubled minds, as it leaves the public in suspense and hampers the government's effective functioning.
Paul Bérenger needs to realize that each departure from the government has cost him many intelligent and capable members of the MMM. Likewise, Navin Ramgoolam must make decisions in collaboration with his alliance partners and not be swayed by a clique that could jeopardize the government.
Several pressing issues must be addressed to rejuvenate the economy. Actions should align with their electoral manifesto, which lays out their core ideologies, policy positions, goals, and promises. Electoral reform is a critical issue that requires consensus among the ruling parties and acceptance from the public to avoid discontent. The tourism industry is performing well, with expectations of 1.4 million visitors this year, generating significant revenue of 100 billion rupees. Competent individuals at Air Mauritius will undoubtedly contribute to high earnings from our airline sector.
Other urgent issues also require decisive action. Drugs plague the nation, endangering youth, the elderly, and vulnerable women. This government must adopt a serious approach to combating drug trafficking. With the ruling party facing criticism regarding the universal pension, it is crucial for them to regain lost popularity by taking strong measures against the drug problem in our country. The Commissioner of Police must be more proactive in fulfilling his duties. Positive actions taken by the police or their successes against drug cartels, reckless drivers, and reducing road accidents should be periodically communicated to the public through press conferences by the Police Commissioner.
The Importance of Communication
To make political activities more appealing, the Prime Minister and his deputy must frequently hold press conferences. The public demands results in nearly all aspects of life. A quarterly joint television meeting to announce some of their significant accomplishments and beneficial actions for the people will undoubtedly enhance their image. It is essential to note that in the absence of communication, people tend to say, "this government is doing nothing."
Everyone needs a stable government for the country to progress rapidly. A split within the ruling party politically divides people and creates more hurdles in achieving their goals. The covenant with the people is sacred, and it is your responsibility to uphold it.
