In Floréal: 67-Year-Old Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit by Drunk Motorcyclist
In Floréal, a tragic accident occurred on Friday morning, December 5, claiming the life of 67-year-old Manoda Mudali. The Surinam resident was struck by a motorcycle while crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing. The motorcyclist was found to be under the influence of alcohol after a breathalyzer test.
According to police reports, the motorcycle was being ridden by a 33-year-old man who was on his way to work at the time of the incident. Due to the force of the impact, the elderly woman was thrown to the ground and sustained serious injuries. Emergency services arrived promptly, providing first aid at the scene before transporting the victim to Victoria Hospital. Unfortunately, her condition deteriorated rapidly, and Manoda Mudali succumbed to her injuries a few hours later.
The motorcyclist was also taken to C-Care Darné for treatment, and his motorcycle was seized for inspection. He was later detained at the Vacoas center.
An autopsy conducted that evening by Dr. Sunassee, in the presence of Inspector Ramdhun, determined that the cause of death was due to cranio-cerebral injuries and multiple fractures.
Manoda Mudali's son, deeply affected by the loss, recounted that he had lost a caring, joyful mother who loved to cook. He recalled their last moments together, especially when she prepared noodles for him before visiting her sister. The shock was immense when he saw her in intensive care, gravely injured. His sorrow is mixed with great anger at the motorcyclist's irresponsibility: "He was drunk and killed my mother at a crossing. My mother suffered a horrible death."
The victim's daughter, still shaken by the recent loss of her husband, expressed her distress and confusion: "How can people have no value?" She mentioned that she would see her mother and aunt daily, who would come to keep her company. It was while crossing the road to join them that the tragedy occurred.
