Job Offer on Facebook: Young Man Loses Over Rs 600,000 in Scam
A 29-year-old man claims to have fallen victim to a scam after responding to a job offer posted on Facebook. The ad promised a warehouse operator position in Germany, with a salary ranging from €2,300 (approximately Rs 125,000) to €2,500 (approximately Rs 136,000), along with free housing, transportation, and medical care.
This resident of Grande-Retraite paid a total of over Rs 600,000 to the recruiting agent.
The events date back to March 2025. Interested in the job offer, the young couple visited the company's offices.
Upon arrival, an individual claiming to be the director explained the procedures and demanded a deposit of Rs 100,000 per person.
A first payment of Rs 200,000 was made in March 2025, followed by a second payment of Rs 400,000 in July to finalize the supposed work permit procedures.
The couple left Mauritius on September 3 for Germany.
However, upon their arrival, an individual named Andrew informed them that their permits were not valid.
The company director then offered them a job in Poland.
With no better options, the couple agreed, but found themselves stuck again.
Ultimately, they had to cover their own return trip to Mauritius.
The suspect is currently being sought by the police.
