Mauritius Challenges the Global Elite in 3x3 Basketball

Mauritius faced off against the world's top teams during the Red Bull Half Court in Dubai. Close defeats and unique experiences have forged a new ambition for the island.

On November 28 and 29, Mauritius proudly showcased its colors at the Red Bull Half Court in Dubai. The Warflip team, consisting of Robette Obrian, Sébastien Babet, Kerry Laprovidence, and Diano Andriantsalama, courageously and determinedly battled opponents from around the globe.

The group matches were intense. Warflip initially lost by a narrow margin of 7-8 to Azerbaijan, followed by another close defeat of 11-13 against Japan. Their final match against Moldova ended in a clearer 5-12 loss, but the players gained valuable lessons from these encounters.

The tournament took place on six courts set up in the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Plaza, surrounded by Dubai's skyscrapers and the impressive Museum of the Future. Eighteen countries were represented, including Mauritius, the USA, Japan, Egypt, and Australia. In the men’s category, Egypt won the tournament by defeating North Macedonia 21-12, while Japan retained their title in the women's category after a tight match against Egypt (9-8).

"The international final in Dubai was the best experience of our sports career," said Warflip captain Robette Obrian. "The atmosphere was fantastic, and the organization was excellent from start to finish. Our opponents were physically stronger, but we learned a lot. We return more motivated than ever."

Beyond the competition, the players had the opportunity to meet 3x3 basketball stars Arike Ogunbowale and Dušan Bulut, allowing Warflip to draw inspiration and observe the global level firsthand.

The experience in Dubai was not just about sports; it provided a chance to observe twelve other high-level teams, understand strategies, and face the pressure of an international tournament. "We were very well received and managed to showcase Mauritius to the other teams," Obrian added.

Returning to Mauritius on November 30 marked the end of an adventure filled with lessons. Each member of Warflip left with international experience, memorable memories, and the motivation to improve. Their goal is now clear: to return stronger in the next edition and continue to represent Mauritius on the global stage.

For Mauritius, these few days in Dubai demonstrate that 3x3 basketball has a future on the island, with talents ready to shine on the international scene.
