Stop of a Mobile Treatment Unit - Water Cuts in Morne: Residents Block the Road

In Morne, frustrated residents, tired of several weeks of water supply disruptions, blocked the road on the morning of Monday, December 8, 2025, to voice their dissatisfaction. The police intervened to restore traffic and calm the situation.

Recent weeks have seen water supply disruptions in the Morne area, causing difficulties for many households. The Central Water Authority (CWA) confirms that the situation is linked to a temporary shutdown of a mobile treatment unit, which was being used as a support measure for the region.

According to Sunil Gopal, communications officer at the CWA, the affected unit, a Containerised Processing Facility (CPF), had to be stopped due to high turbidity of the water from the Baie-du-Cap river. "The problem has persisted for several weeks and is due to a CPF, a mobile treatment unit, which had to be halted due to the muddy water from the river," he stated. This condition made treatment impossible according to the required standards.

To maintain a minimum supply, the CWA explains that it has deployed water tankers in the area. "To address the shortfall caused by this situation, we have put tankers at the service of the residents," clarifies Sunil Gopal. However, these temporary measures were not enough to fully meet the demand, leading to protests on-site.

The CWA states that the situation improved as the quality of the raw water enhanced. The mobile treatment unit was thus able to be restarted. "The mobile treatment unit was activated as soon as the water cleared up," confirmed the official. The CWA also plans to strengthen logistical support with additional tankers.

According to the agency, operations are now closely monitored by technical teams, who track changes in water quality and adjust their interventions as needed. The CWA indicates that the situation is currently "under control" and that efforts are underway to ensure a return to regular supply as soon as possible.
