Education: Closure of a School and Three Colleges

Four public schools will close at the end of the 2025 academic year and will not accept registrations for 2026. These are Riche-En-Eau Government School, Marcel Cabon SSS, Sébastopol SSS, and Port-Louis North SSS.

This announcement was made this afternoon by the Minister of Education, Mahend Gungapersad, in response to a parliamentary question from Tony Apollon.

The minister specified that students currently enrolled will be relocated to nearby institutions. He also reminded that between 2002 and today, 17 schools — including 11 primary and 6 secondary — have already been closed.

Mahend Gungapersad added that the Economic Development Board (EDB) has requested information to explore the possibility of converting these vacant buildings into income-generating projects.
