Race to Renew AGOA: U.S. Bill Aims to Restore and Extend Trade Benefits to 2028

A new bill introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives, which is set for markup today, aims to extend the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) for an additional three years. This extension would maintain duty-free access for thousands of African exports to the U.S. market and provide retroactive relief to importers who have been impacted by the program's lapse earlier this fall.

The AGOA Extension Act, put forward by Rep. Jason Smith from Missouri, would shift the program’s expiration date from September 30, 2025, to beyond that.
