Melrose Prison – Inmate Andy Selmon Dies After Altercation: 'He was frightened and asked to be moved,' says Dev Jokhoo
Melrose Prison – Inmate Andy Selmon passed away last night around 8 PM due to injuries he reportedly sustained during a violent altercation with other inmates at Melrose Prison.
Speaking on Radio Plus this morning, prison commissioner Dev Jokhoo stated that the inmate had initially requested medical attention, claiming he had fallen. "The inmate had asked for help, explaining that he had fallen," he clarified.
According to Dev Jokhoo, Andy Selmon had confided to the prison staff that he was afraid and wanted to be transferred to another block. Later, he returned to the infirmary accompanied by two fellow inmates, stating he felt unwell. The doctor from SAMU, who was called to the scene, could only declare him dead.
Furthermore, the prison commissioner categorically denied having refused access to SAMU services.
The MCIT has been tasked with the investigation. Surveillance camera footage has already been handed over to the investigators.
