Moustass Leaks: ACP Lilram Deal Arrested for Breach of Official Secrets Act

Moustass Leaks: ACP Lilram Deal was arrested on Tuesday afternoon, December 9, by the Central Criminal Investigation Department (CCID) as part of an investigation into phone tapping related to the Moustass Leaks. After being questioned at the CCID that afternoon, investigators informed him that he was being arrested for Breach of the Official Secrets Act.

The CCID accused Lilram Deal of refusing to provide access codes for a Prestsol listening device, which would allow the police to access data. Investigators suspect he has these codes. During his questioning, he provided a certain number of codes to the CCID, but stated that he could not remember others. This explanation did not convince the investigators.

When he was in charge of the Counter Terrorist Unit, Lilram Deal was responsible for one of the devices assigned to that unit. The CCID suspects a link between the phone taps recorded by this device and the audio tapes from the Moustass Leaks, which were made public on social media by Missié Moustass.

During his questioning on Tuesday, Lilram Deal was assisted by lawyer Roshi Bhadain. Early in the evening, after being informed of the investigators' decision to place him in a detention cell, the high-ranking police officer expressed health concerns. He was then taken to a private clinic in the capital for treatment. As we went to press, it had not yet been confirmed whether Lilram Deal would be held in a police cell.
