Content: 24 students ranked among the top 500 in the Cambridge Assessment International Education for the 2024 cohort at the Higher School Certificate (HSC) level have been selected to receive the Additional Scholarships based on Merit and Social Criteria for 2025. For many families, this support represents a significant relief and enables recipients to finance their studies.

Twenty-four additional scholarships were announced on Tuesday, according to the "Merit & Social" criteria. The selection was conducted by the Ministry of Education in partnership with the Ministry of Social Security, based on a statement published on March 3 and the Education (Amendment) Regulations of 2013. In Rodrigues, the selection was carried out by the Rodrigues Regional Assembly.

The beneficiaries are among the top 500 in the Cambridge Assessment International Education for the 2024 cohort. Sixteen scholarships have been awarded to students from households earning up to Rs 37,000 per month, while eight scholarships are intended for families with a monthly income not exceeding Rs 18,500.

Testimonials

Adel Emilien, from Rodrigues College: “It’s a blessing”

“I am very happy to have received this scholarship. I worked hard to earn this reward. I waited a long time, and my parents are very pleased because it was a burden on their shoulders. They work to fund my education. It’s a blessing. I plan to pursue a degree in Accounting and Finance at Middlesex University, Mauritius. I have already enrolled and will start my classes next April.”

Vanshika Jooty, from Dr Maurice Curé State College: “I prefer to continue my studies in Mauritius”

“It was news I did not expect. Thanks to God and the support of my teachers, parents, and sister, I ranked 21st in the science stream. I will begin medical studies at the University of Mauritius, aiming to become a general practitioner. This scholarship will facilitate my journey. My parents are very proud. I prefer to study in Mauritius. The courses are available here; I don’t see why not take advantage of it and serve my country afterward.”

Sania Bibi Khodabux, from Royal College Curepipe: “I want to study law”

“I waited almost a year for this, and when I learned the news, I burst into tears. I want to study law. I am not yet enrolled at the university because I retook the HSC. My parents are very happy.”

Cedric Brice Leroux, from Royal College Port-Louis: “Goal achieved”

“I have already been at university in Malaysia since September. I am studying to become an actuary. After my studies, I wish to return to Mauritius to work. That’s where I grew up, where my parents and friends are. Being away from my country made me realize how much I love it. Upon hearing the news, I called my mom; I also spoke to my siblings. They are happy and relieved. During the exams, I had this goal in mind, and I am truly satisfied to have achieved it. All my efforts have finally paid off. I am grateful to my teachers at Royal College Port-Louis, my friends, and the drama group, without whom I could not have managed this emotionally.”
