At the Assize Court: Life Imprisonment for Mamode Umair Nubbeebuccus for the Murder of His Ex-Wife
On Wednesday, December 10, 2025, the verdict was delivered at the Assize Court. Mamode Umair Nubbeebuccus, a 34-year-old former server from Sébastopol, was sentenced to life in prison. He pleaded guilty to the premeditated murder of his ex-wife, Ganeshwaree Buleeram, who was 24 years old when she was killed on November 8, 2019, in Camp-de-Masque-Pavé. According to the indictment, he was 28 years old at the time of the incident.
Judge Mehdi Manrakhan noted that the accused, obsessed with his ex-wife whom he had been harassing, believed she was having a relationship with another man. This motive, combining obsession and jealousy, lies at the heart of the case.
The judge referred to acts of extreme brutality: kidnapping, assaults, torture, and stabbing. Despite a request for clemency, he concluded that "the inflicted brutality, prolonged torture, and complete annihilation of her dignity" excluded the possibility of a time-limited sentence.
According to the autopsy report, Ganeshwaree Buleeram suffered 22 stab wounds.
