Mauritius Commemorates the 101st Birthday of the Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee
On December 10, 2025, Mauritius commemorated the 101st birthday of the late former Indian Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation in Côte d'Or Technopole, attended by Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam.
The event, organized by the Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reforms in collaboration with the High Commission of India, was part of ongoing initiatives to honor Vajpayee's long-standing leadership and contributions to public service and democratic governance. The program included a screening of the film "Main Atal Hoon," which depicted the life and political journey of the former Indian leader.
Among the attendees were the Minister of Public Service and Administrative Reforms, Raj Pentiah, various ministers, members of the National Assembly, the Indian High Commissioner to Mauritius, and other distinguished guests.
In his speech, Prime Minister Ramgoolam recalled Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee's warm and enduring relationship with Mauritius, noting that Vajpayee consistently recognized the country as a close and reliable partner of India. He emphasized Vajpayee's lasting influence as a statesman who championed dialogue, cooperation, and principled leadership. "Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee embodied humility and strength, believing in progress driven by compassion, constructive engagement, and the defense of democratic values," he added.
Dr. Ramgoolam also highlighted the former Indian leader's unwavering commitment to peace and his belief that nations should focus their efforts on combating unemployment, poverty, and inequality. According to him, the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation stands as a tangible symbol of these values, reflecting a shared vision of governance rooted in service and capacity building. He also noted that commemorating Vajpayee's legacy offers an opportunity to inspire future generations, particularly the youth, to value public service and uphold principles that promote stability, cooperation, and ethical leadership.
