Registration Exercise after PSAC Results on Thursday: Low Turnout in Catholic Colleges This Year
Approximately a thousand parents attended the registration exercise at Catholic colleges, organized following the release of PSAC results. The results of the Primary School Achievement Certificate (PSAC) were announced on Thursday, December 11, 2025. In response, the Diocesan Service for Catholic Education (SeDEC) opened registrations for parents wishing to secure a place in Catholic colleges. Unlike previous years, officials noted a significant decrease in applications.
"We welcomed far fewer parents than last year," explained Jacques Daniel Sungaren, Manager at Loreto College of Quatre-Bornes (LCQB). He stated that no specific reason could explain this trend: "Some parents tell us they have heard good things about LCQB. Others are hesitant, influenced by the emergence of National Colleges, which creates uncertainty in their choices."
Each year, the ten Catholic colleges accommodate about 2,000 students in Grade 7. These students come from the working list of the Mauritius Examinations Syndicate (MES) and from those who secure a place after the registration exercise.
To be admitted, a student must achieve an aggregate score between 4 and 14 units, based on their four best results. Registrations are conducted exclusively within the colleges corresponding to the attended primary school zone. Officials will inform parents via phone and mail by December 16 at the latest. Admissions will take place on Wednesday, December 17.
On-site, staff assisted parents, especially those who had difficulty understanding the college distribution by zone.
Parent Testimonials:
- Aicha Buxsoo: "I came to register my daughter at Loreto College in Port-Louis. Living nearby, the location was an important criterion for me."
- Christian Denis Azemoth: "My daughter, a student at Père Laval R.C.A. school, achieved good results. Her teachers encouraged us to register her here. I believe she deserves better than the college assigned to her. If she does not secure a place, I will look for other alternatives for her future."
- Kevin Haychue: "My daughter worked hard for her exams. She wishes to attend Loreto College in Port-Louis. If she is not admitted, I will pursue other options. She has made her effort, now it’s my turn to do mine."
- Swapna Groodoyal: "I have always wanted my son to attend St. Esprit College. He worked well and achieved 4 units. He received an assignment to Phœnix SSS, just like his friends, but we are trying."
- Elodie Ng Fok Sue: "My son was in Grade 5 and made efforts, obtaining 4 units. I believe St. Esprit College is better suited, which is why I came for the registration. He was assigned to Eden Boys, but I am not satisfied. I hope this is the right path. If it is God's will, we will succeed."
