Jet Ski Accident in Dubai: Saniah Hobass Dreamed of a Career in Medicine
Saniah Hobass, who was in Dubai to celebrate her 17th birthday, tragically lost her life in a jet ski accident at Jumeirah. The bright and ambitious teenager had dreams of pursuing a career in medicine. Her cousin sustained serious injuries in the incident.
Saniah was a talented student, destined for a bright future. Ambitious in her goals, she wanted to make her parents proud by studying medicine. Accompanied by her aunt and relatives on a trip to Dubai, she was excited to celebrate her birthday on December 8. However, on this special day, while everyone was joyfully wishing her well, a terrible misfortune struck.
While jet skiing in the sea at Jumeirah with her cousin Zia, they were involved in an accident. The impact left no chance for the young girl, who died at the scene, while her cousin remains hospitalized with serious injuries and her condition is critical.
At the home of the young victim, time has stood still. After diligently preparing for the School Certificate (SC) exams, Saniah, a student at Lorette College in Quatre-Bornes, was eagerly anticipating her trip to Dubai. "She had just completed her SC exams, with results expected next year. She was very studious and intelligent. This year, she dedicated herself so much to her studies that she hardly went out. Her aunt organized this trip for her to relax a bit," shared a devastated relative.
Unforgettable Memories
On December 3, Saniah traveled to the United Arab Emirates with her cousins and other relatives. "Initially, they were supposed to spend two days in Dubai, then visit Thailand and Cambodia before returning to Dubai," the relative explained. But once they arrived, Saniah expressed her desire to enjoy the city more. "She loved Dubai so much that she asked her aunt to stay longer, especially with her birthday approaching," they added.
"From Friday to Sunday, they were in Abu Dhabi to attend the Formula 1 races. She even took pictures," said the family member, recalling those unforgettable memories. Then on Monday, they went to Jumeirah. "They had booked a hotel. Since it was her birthday, she wanted to jet ski with her cousins, who were experienced in it," the source explained. However, her aunt initially refused, reminding her that she was not of the required age for this activity. Nevertheless, Saniah managed to persuade her, saying, "Just give me that as a birthday gift." "We couldn't say no to her," the relative confided.
Only Child
Thus, they set off for a jet ski session. The joys and laughter of this much-anticipated day abruptly ended.
The news of the teenager's death shattered her entire family in Dubai and Mauritius. "She was incredibly kind. Above all, she loved spending time with her cousins and family.
Her parents are devastated. She was an only child, and she dreamed of a career in medicine, which was her father's dream," they said. Efforts have been initiated to repatriate her remains. "Normally, the process takes a week, but we received assistance from Showkutally Soodhun, who was very helpful and kind," they noted.
The victim's parents traveled to Dubai. Her remains arrived in Mauritius on Friday morning, a heartbreaking moment for her loved ones. Emotional funeral services for Saniah took place on Friday afternoon.
