Mauritius Shines at the 10th World Bread Championship

In its debut at the 2025 World Bread Championship, the Mauritian team achieved an impressive 9th place, proudly representing the island. Their unique approach? To narrate the story of Mauritius through its iconic flavors, from street snacks to local sweets, all reimagined for the competition.

The SERBOTEL fair in Nantes brought together 21 nations with a shared goal: to celebrate the technical skill, creativity, and nutritional aspects of baking. From the opening on October 18, the delegations fostered a spirit of camaraderie, leading up to Shezad Sahye and his assistant Farhaan Moosuddee diving into intense working sessions starting October 20. They focused on preparing sourdough, classic breads, original creations, pastries, sandwiches, and finally an artistic piece inspired by the 20th anniversary of the Ambassadors of Bread theme.

Their secret? A blend of culture and local produce. Ingredients like gato pima, macatia coco, zanana disel pima, Victoria pineapple, Chamarel cocoa, taro, coconut, and even deer were used to create unique, authentic masterpieces.

For Sabeer Hookoomally, the team's coach: "This first participation is a foundational experience." Shezad Sahye adds: "It is an immense honor and a springboard to inspire the young Mauritian generation."
