The executive has always held significant power in our country, perhaps too much. In our parliamentary system inspired by Westminster, the Cabinet, Junior Ministers, and the Leader of the House traditionally overshadow the legislative branch, often unintentionally. This isn't new. However, what is new is the palpable tension that arose when a backbencher – Stéphanie Anquetil, to be specific – from the majority party dared to do what is actually provided for in the Constitution last Tuesday.
