Israeli Army Claims to Have Killed Two Hezbollah Members in Southern Lebanon
The Israeli army announced that it killed two members of Hezbollah in southern Lebanon on Sunday, while Beirut reported three fatalities due to Israeli strikes in the region.
"Since this morning (Sunday), the army has targeted three Hezbollah terrorists in various areas of southern Lebanon," the Israeli army stated in a press release.
"The terrorists were involved in attempts to restore the infrastructure" of the Lebanese movement, in violation of the November 2024 ceasefire agreement, it added.
The army then claimed to have "eliminated" two of them "in less than an hour" in the regions of Yater and Bint Jbeil (southern Lebanon).
The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported three deaths from Israeli strikes in Yater, Safad Al-Battikh, and Jwaya.
A ceasefire has been in effect since November 2024 after more than a year of hostilities between Israel and the Lebanese Islamist movement, amid the Gaza war.
Despite this truce, Israel regularly conducts strikes in Lebanon, particularly in the south, Hezbollah's stronghold, claiming to target members and infrastructure of the Lebanese movement to prevent it from rearming.
On Saturday, the Israeli army indicated that it had "temporarily" suspended a planned strike on a building in the southern region of Yanouh, which it described as Hezbollah infrastructure.
The Lebanese army is expected to complete the dismantling of Hezbollah's military infrastructure between the Israeli border and the Litani River, located about 30 km further north, by the end of the year, as stipulated in the ceasefire agreement.
Since then, the United States has increased pressure on Lebanese authorities to disarm the Iranian-backed group and cut off funding sources for the Islamist formation.
Israel maintains five positions in the area, despite its withdrawal from Lebanese territory as per the ceasefire agreement.
In a speech on Saturday, Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem, who has repeatedly dismissed the prospect of disarming the movement, stated that Hezbollah "will not allow Israel to achieve its objective" of ending resistance, "even if the whole world unites against Lebanon."
