Parliament on Break After 40 Sessions, 30 Bills, and 838 Questions
Before the parliamentary session was adjourned on Friday, the Prime Minister, in his role as Leader of the House, delivered a year-end message reflecting on parliamentary activities and expressing gratitude to all the stakeholders involved in the institution.
He reminded everyone that the first session of the year took place on January 24, 2025, featuring a program speech from the President of the Republic outlining the government's major directions for the period 2025-2029. Throughout the year, a total of 40 sessions were held, during which 30 bills were tabled, of which 29 were adopted.
The head of government also emphasized the intensity of parliamentary oversight, with 838 parliamentary questions receiving oral responses, six written answers, and 32 Private Notice Questions addressed by the opposition leader.
Navin Ramgoolam thanked the Speaker for the "smooth" conduct of debates, the Deputy Speaker for his contributions, and all MPs for the quality of their interventions. He also expressed his appreciation for the Clerk of the National Assembly, the Serjeant-at-Arms, the parliamentary staff, and the officials who contributed to the smooth functioning of the institution.
In a spirit of concord, he requested the Speaker to convey the Chamber's best wishes to the President of the Republic and his wife, as well as to the Vice-President and his wife. Finally, the Prime Minister extended his wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to the Speaker, government members, the opposition leader, all MPs and their families, as well as the staff of the National Assembly.
