Vinayeghen Govindasami Appointed Part-Time Chairperson of the Mauritius Shipping Corporation

Vinayeghen Govindasami has been appointed as the part-time Chairperson of the Mauritius Shipping Corporation (MSC), as noted by the Council of Ministers on December 12, 2025. This change comes as part of a restructuring of the MSC's board, which is responsible for promoting the maritime activities of the state. Alongside Govindasami's appointment, Sanjaye Dabydoyal has been named Managing Director.

At 55 years old, Govindasami boasts over three decades of professional experience, primarily focused on safety, occupational health, and organizational governance. He began his career in 1989 at the Casino of Mauritius, serving nearly 28 years as a Compliance Officer until January 2017. In this role, he was involved in internal control, adherence to procedures, and risk management, and also served for four years as the Health & Safety Liaison Coordinator in the casino companies managed by SIC Management Services.

From 2017 onwards, he transitioned to direct roles in safety and health, including serving as a Safety & Health Officer and workplace safety consultant. He was registered as a Safety & Health Officer for the Shanti Maurice Hotel / Spa on the Shores Limited from 2017 to 2019, where his duties included implementing safety standards, conducting incident investigations, risk assessments, and staff training.

Govindasami has also worked as a Health & Safety Consultant for various companies across multiple sectors, including the Mauritius Trading Company Limited, Atalian Interactive Limited, STR Marketing Limited, Albert Group, and MRC Wire Products Ltd. He holds similar roles with various private groups as well.

Academically, he has a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Health and Safety from the University of Mauritius, a diploma in human resources, and several certificates in management, internal auditing, and training. He is also a certified first aid trainer with the St John Ambulance Training Institution, where he serves as a Programme Officer.

In response to his appointment, Govindasami expressed that he accepted this responsibility "with humility and pride." He stated, "It is a challenge to take on. I look forward to meeting the Managing Director and others for an initial meeting. I am a proponent of teamwork. The MSC seems to be an organization that is not well-known to the public, and I intend to help raise its profile."
