Title: Safe Deposit Box Case: Prosecution Submits Documents to Ramgoolam's Lawyers
Content: The trial regarding "excess payments" against Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam was called on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, before the Financial Crimes Division of the Intermediate Court.
During the hearing, Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr. Nataraj Muneesamy, informed the Court that, "in light of the Court's ruling" dated November 27, 2025, the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions had written to the Police Commissioner to obtain the documents specified in the disclosure order. He specified that his office received, the day before, "a report with appendices including relevant entries from the Diary Book as well as information related to mutual legal assistance." The aforementioned documents were communicated to the defense on Tuesday.
Speaking on behalf of Navin Ramgoolam, Senior Counsel Robin Ramburn noted that the defense still intends to raise a legal point but is not yet prepared to formulate its motion. "We have just received the documents. We need to verify whether there has been adequate disclosure," he stated, clarifying that any deficiencies could be raised in a motion for abuse of process.
The defense requested additional time to determine its position. The case has been adjourned until January 15, 2026.
