Jocelyn Chan Low: "The Repair Operation Was a Failure"
After last week's intense tensions in Parliament between Stéphanie Anquetil and Arianne Navarre-Marie, along with the episode of Paul Bérenger's failed resignation, the Alliance of Change is once again in turmoil. This time, it is due to an open conflict between MP Ehsan Juman and Minister Aadil Ameer Meea.
Political observer Jocelyn Chan Low is not surprised. He believes this situation was inevitable. The current tensions, he explains, demonstrate that the differences within the alliance have never truly been resolved. "We need to stop sweeping everything under the rug. The repair operation following the DPM's attempted resignation failed and shows that the breach is very much present," he analyzes.
Certainly, differences exist in any government, but according to Jocelyn Chan Low, the current situation is becoming concerning. "With the statements from MP Ehsan Juman and the response from Minister Aadil Ameer Meea, this weighs heavily on the scales," he points out, referring to a buildup of crises that undermines the cohesion of the Alliance.
Fundamentally, Jocelyn Chan Low considers that the majority ranks are now divided. "There are those who operate with integrity and principles, and others who seek popularity above all else. That’s where the problem lies," he comments.
Before announcing his failed resignation, Paul Bérenger had sharply criticized certain appointments made by the Labour Party, the observer adds. "Today, we see ministers from this alliance publicly making the same criticisms. Even if an immediate break isn't on the agenda, the situation remains fragile and the question arises: where is the real promised change?" he questions.
On his part, Ajay Daby, former Speaker of the National Assembly and political observer, is more measured. While he does not believe in an immediate break of the government, he thinks the situation could evolve quickly. "Something is brewing, but it's still too early to draw definitive conclusions," he asserts.
According to him, the current tensions reflect an internal struggle that could weaken government action. He calls for caution. "We must not play with the nation's nerves," warns Ajay Daby.
