Russia: A Child Stabbed to Death by Another Student in a School Near Moscow

A 10-year-old boy was fatally stabbed by another student at a school in Odintsovo, a few kilometers west of Moscow, according to a Russian police statement.

At 09:00 local time (06:00 GMT), a student at the institution attacked a guard with a knife, then turned on a 10-year-old boy who "succumbed to his injuries," the statement indicated.

"The assailant has been arrested," the statement noted. The attacker is a 15-year-old teenager, as reported by the Russian Investigative Committee, which handles major investigations in the country, announcing the opening of a murder investigation.

According to the Investigative Committee, the incident took place in the locality of Gorki-2, in the municipal district of Odintsovo, in the Moscow region.

The attack also resulted in "injuries," said the regional children's rights representative, Ksenia Michonova, on Telegram, without providing further details.

The motive of the assailant is currently unknown.

In September 2024, three teenagers and a teacher were injured by a student who attacked them with a hammer at a school in Chelyabinsk, in the Urals.

Once extremely rare, armed attacks in schools, sometimes deadly, have been increasing in Russia in recent years, particularly involving firearms despite very strict and recently tightened laws.
