Imprisoned for Drug Trafficking Since October 2024: 'Gro Brayen' Accused of Rape After 17 Months

A 34-year-old woman filed a rape complaint on Sunday against a suspected trafficker known as "Gro Brayen". The alleged incident reportedly took place in June 2024. The man is currently incarcerated at Beau-Bassin prison.

A rape complaint against a suspected dealer, known by the nickname "Gro Brayen" and imprisoned since October 2024 for drug-related charges, was filed on Sunday, December 14, at the Pope Hennessy police station in Port-Louis. The alleged events date back to June 2024, approximately 17 months earlier, in Tranquebar, near a cremation site.

The alleged victim, aged 34, claims to have met the man several times. She states that he frequently made sexual advances towards her, accompanied by inappropriate gestures.

According to her statements, in June 2024, the man invited her for a drive, treating her to food and drinks. They first went to Champ-de-Mars before continuing their journey to Tranquebar.

It is at this location where the sexual assault allegedly occurred, according to the complainant, who asserts that the man threatened her with physical violence if she refused and tore her clothes.

The victim explains that she filed the complaint several months later after learning that the suspect had been incarcerated at Beau-Bassin prison since October 30, 2024, believing that his detention would protect her from further assaults. During her hearing, she mentioned having already washed the clothes she wore on the day of the incident and disposed of her underwear. However, she indicated to the police the exact location where the assault took place and claims she can identify the suspect.

"Gro Brayen" is known to the police. In April 2024, following the arrest of a police officer involved in drug trafficking, the Anti-Drug & Smuggling Unit in the South discovered 7.6 kilograms of cannabis, an air gun, 1,536 rolling papers, and various drug trafficking accessories. Suspected of being a key player in the network, he was arrested on October 10, 2024, by the Divisional Crime Investigation Unit (DCIU) during a targeted operation in Bain-Boeuf and provisionally charged with drug trafficking.

The man was also wanted for his alleged involvement in the seizure of 20.95 kilograms of zamal, valued at Rs 60 million, in the Choisy forest, Baie-du-Cap, in December 2023. During this operation, two rifles and ammunition were seized, and shots were fired at the police without causing injuries.
