Rights of Persons with Disabilities: First Report from the Inter-Ministerial Committee Submitted to the Cabinet This Friday
The first meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities took place on Tuesday, December 16, under the presidency of the Minister of Social Integration and Social Security, Ashok Subron. A preliminary report will be presented to the Cabinet this Friday.
Established by the Cabinet last November, this committee is tasked with coordinating and overseeing the implementation of the 73 recommendations made by the United Nations Committee, in order to align public policies and Mauritian laws with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. It will also lead the development of a National Strategy and an Action Plan on disability for the period 2026-2030, as well as propose potential legislative and constitutional reforms.
