The Government Launches Monitoring of the 73 UN Recommendations on Disabilities

The first meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Committee, chaired by the Minister of Social Integration, Social Security, and National Solidarity, Ashok Subron, took place on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. An initial report will be presented to the Council of Ministers this Friday.

This committee was established by the Cabinet of Ministers on November 28. According to its terms of reference, it is responsible for overseeing, coordinating, and ensuring the implementation of the 73 recommendations made by the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in its final observations under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). To this end, the Inter-Ministerial Committee will ensure, among other things, the alignment of public policies, legislative frameworks, and national programs with the provisions of the UNCRPD.

The Council of Ministers has also tasked this committee with formulating any appropriate recommendations and leading the implementation of these recommendations, notably through the development of a National Strategy and an Action Plan for Disabilities for the period 2026–2030, proposing constitutional amendments, and endorsing the optional protocols of the UNCRPD.
