Constitutional Review Commission: Former Chief Justice Bernard Sik Yuen Expected to Lead
The Constitutional Review Commission has not had a president until now. Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam announced that former Chief Justice Bernard Sik Yuen is well-placed to take on the presidency. He reportedly met with the Attorney General recently.
Navin Ramgoolam was responding to questions from Nawaaz Noorbux during the show "Au cœur de l’info" yesterday.
The Constitutional Review Commission, which was announced in the government program for 2025-2029, will make recommendations on constitutional and electoral reforms, as well as on enhancing the protection of fundamental rights. The Commission will examine, among other things, the establishment of an electoral college responsible for electing the President of the Republic, to ensure that the President has a mandate from a broader base.
