Learning and Cultural Exchanges: ALCHE Students Host Youth from Lakaz Lespwar

On Saturday, October 4, 2025, the African Leadership College of Higher Education (ALCHE) welcomed children from the NGO Lakaz Lespwar to its Beau-Plan campus. This initiative, part of the Mastercard Foundation Give Back Project, brought together academics, students, and young beneficiaries for a day filled with interactive games, English classes, and outdoor educational activities.

Throughout the day, ALCHE faculty and students led English learning workshops, guided the children around the campus, and organized recreational and team-building activities. These experiences allowed the children to explore the university environment, broaden their horizons, and engage in intercultural exchanges with peers from diverse backgrounds. Many children, visiting the campus for the first time, asked questions about student life and university pathways.

This event marked the continuation of community engagement activities conducted with the same NGO in April 2025, further strengthening the partnership between ALCHE and Lakaz Lespwar. It also aligns with ALCHE's commitment to environmental awareness and social responsibility.

"Partnerships like the one we have built with the Mastercard Foundation and Lakaz Lespwar are essential for paving the way for empowerment and achieving the long-term educational aspirations of young people," said Janique Maduray, a student who helped organize the event. "It also allows us to give back, not with grand gestures, but with heart. Through football, creative thinking, treasure hunts, English classes, and shared meals, we laughed, learned, and created unforgettable memories. Each smile reminded us that giving back is more than just a service; it’s about forging connections, growing, and loving, because when we help others, we are able to create a lasting impact," she added.

This type of action highlights ALCHE's mission to train the leaders of tomorrow through project-based learning, the development of value-driven leadership, and meaningful community engagement. ALCHE emphasizes the importance of education, civic participation, and collaborative action as key drivers of social transformation in Mauritius and Africa.

Looking ahead, ALCHE aims to open its doors to youth from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds by providing opportunities for access to quality higher education through scholarships and other support mechanisms.
