Attempt to Exchange Counterfeit Bills: Young Man Arrested in Capital Bank
A 19-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday, December 16, after attempting to exchange counterfeit euro bills at a bank in the capital.
The resident of Pointe-aux-Sables approached the teller and presented three €50 bills to convert into Mauritian rupees. During a routine check, the bills were subjected to a verification machine, which repeatedly rejected them.
In light of this anomaly, further checks were carried out. It was then discovered that the three bills bore the same serial number, confirming their suspicious nature.
The police were alerted, and the young man was apprehended on the spot before being taken in for questioning. After his interrogation, he was allowed to leave the premises.
