During an Outing at the Botanical Garden in Pamplemousses: A 3-Year-Old Boy Forgotten by Caregivers
On Tuesday, December 16th, an incident occurred at the Botanical Garden in Pamplemousses where a three-year-old boy was found alone. A representative of the Botanical Garden noticed the child wandering unsupervised in the grounds. A patrol was immediately organized to locate his parents or the supervisors of the outing, but to no avail. The child was subsequently taken to the Pamplemousses police station.
His identification was made possible through a representative of a home located in Plaines Wilhems, where the child has resided since birth. According to her, around 11 a.m. that day, 15 children were participating in an outing supervised by six staff members. It was only upon returning to the home that it was discovered that one child was missing.
The boy was taken care of by the police and transported to the Northern Hospital, where a redness was observed on his right arm. His condition is considered stable.
A police investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of this incident. The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Welfare is closely monitoring the case and has reminded the caregivers of their obligations regarding child protection. When contacted by the editorial team, one of the home representatives declined to comment.
