New Control Tower at SSR International Airport: Project to Restart Soon

On Wednesday, December 17, Airports of Mauritius Co. Ltd (AML) welcomed a delegation of Indian officials to visit the construction site of the new control tower at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (SSRIA). The work, which has been paused since July 2020 due to the administration of the company responsible for the project, is set to resume soon with the technical and financial support from the Indian government, according to a statement issued by AML this afternoon.

This visit allows for an assessment of the progress made and the planning of the remaining steps needed to finalize this strategic infrastructure. It forms part of the cooperation between Mauritius and India, which was strengthened during Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam's visit to New Delhi last September, resulting in support for several priority projects.

According to AML's CEO, Lormus Bundhoo, this restart is a crucial step for the future development of the airport and the safety of air traffic. The new control tower is expected to become an essential modern infrastructure for the efficiency of airport operations.
