Mare-Chicose: Resumption of Operations After Temporary Disruption

A dispute between the operator Sotravic/Strata and contracted truck drivers led to a disruption of operations at the Mare-Chicose landfill site on Thursday, December 18, 2025.

The situation, closely monitored by the Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management, and Climate Change, was resolved in the afternoon following negotiations between both parties, according to a statement from the ministry issued on the same day.

It was also noted that a complaint has been filed at the Centre-de-Flacq police station, and an investigation has been launched by the Solid Waste Management Division to determine accountability.

The ministry emphasizes that it takes this incident very seriously, especially since it occurs as the year-end holidays approach.
