India: In Response to a Pollution Surge, New Delhi Restricts Certain Vehicles

In New Delhi, an unprecedented mission has fallen on petrol station attendants: they are now enforcing air quality regulations. The rule has become a mantra: "No certificate, no fuel."

At the Hauz Khas station, it’s Rajesh who gives the green light. "We check the pollution control certificate; if it’s valid, the customer can fill up. Otherwise, it’s off to the technical inspection," he explains to our correspondent in New Delhi, Abdoollah Earally. The inspection is carried out directly at the station, ensuring compliance with environmental standards.
