Arrested for Murder and Theft: Inmate Henriette Knocks Out a Policeman and Escapes from Jeetoo Hospital
Inmate Cédric Jolann Henriette, facing charges of murder and theft, escaped from Dr. A. G. Jeetoo Hospital after assaulting a police officer in the restroom. Search efforts have so far been unsuccessful.
While at the hospital, Henriette, 22 years old and from Ti-Rodrigues in Cité La Cure, managed to knock a police sergeant unconscious before fleeing. On December 17, he had been returned to the police station following his court appearance at Moka.
After being incarcerated at the Moka Detention Centre that same day, Henriette complained of health issues in the early evening. Police officers from the Moka station transported him initially to MediClinic in Quartier-Militaire, but due to a power outage there, he was moved to Dr. A. G. Jeetoo Hospital for treatment.
During his time at the hospital, he asked to use the restroom while being monitored by a police sergeant, who unlocked his handcuffs to allow him to wash up. At that moment, the sergeant reported that Henriette violently pushed him, causing him to fall, which allowed the inmate to escape.
Once the alarm was raised, patrols were conducted in Tranquebar and Vallée-Pitot in search of him, but they were unsuccessful.
On Thursday, detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division in Port-Louis North, led by Inspector Lullith, conducted raids in Ti-Rodrigues where they spotted the fugitive. However, he managed to escape again, leaving behind the handcuffs, which were recovered by the police.
Henriette is known to law enforcement for previous theft offenses. In 2022, he was among the suspects arrested during the investigation into the murder of Marguetson Legentille in Ti-Rodrigues. This case was initially thought to be a suicide disguised as a hanging, as Legentille was found kneeling with a hose around his neck, hanging from a beam in the ceiling.
