Canned Mackerel, Adult Diapers, and Certain Medications: The State Introduces New Subsidies
The Council of Ministers approved the extension of a fixed subsidy scheme under the Price Stabilisation Fund to two new essential products: canned mackerel/sardines and adult diapers. It also sanctioned a fixed subsidy for certain antihypertensive medications and medications for cardiovascular diseases and diabetes for products priced at Rs 100 or more.
Subsidies will be provided as follows:
• Rs 10 per can of mackerel or sardines;
• Rs 50 for a packet of 10 adult diapers;
• Rs 50 per box of antihypertensive medications and medications for cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.
These measures will take effect from January 15, 2026. The Council of Ministers also approved their implementation in Rodrigues.
