Bernard Sik Yuen Appointed Head of the Constitutional Revision Commission

Former Chief Justice Bernard Sik Yuen has been appointed as the chairman of the Constitutional Revision Commission. The decision was made during the Cabinet meeting held this Friday.

Since its establishment, the Constitutional Revision Commission did not have a president. Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam had stated on Tuesday, during the show "Au cœur de l’info," that former Chief Justice Bernard Sik Yuen was well-suited to take on the presidency.

The Constitutional Revision Commission, outlined in the government program for 2025-2029, will make recommendations on constitutional and electoral reforms, as well as on enhancing the protection of fundamental rights. It will particularly consider the establishment of an electoral college responsible for electing the President of the Republic, ensuring that the latter has a mandate derived from a broader base.
