Central Barracks: Stolen Sheets of Metal

A case of stolen metal sheets was reported to the Line Barracks police on Friday, December 19. In his complaint, a director of a demolition company stated that for about two months, his services had been engaged to carry out work in old buildings of the Special Supporting Unit (SSU) 4 and the former police garage, which had been damaged by a fire in 2022.

The demolition team was authorized to access the site daily to clear debris, including metal sheets, damaged steel, and other materials. The complainant recounts that on November 18, in the absence of site supervisors, an individual allegedly loaded several metal items, including sheets of metal and eleven old metal supports, into a vehicle without permission before leaving the premises.

The metal supports, each weighing between 120 and 150 kg, belong to the National Heritage Fund. The exact value of the stolen items has not yet been determined.

A site inspection was conducted by the police, including elements from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of South Port-Louis. The police investigation is ongoing.
