The Youth Summit 2025: Mauritius in Tune with Youth and Action

On December 21, 2025, the Youth Summit 2025 brought together committed Mauritian students for three days of workshops, debates, and concrete actions aimed at envisioning and building a sustainable future.

From December 9 to 11, organized by Action Against Global Warming, the summit gathered around fifty passionate students determined to create a sustainable future for Mauritius and the world. Three days filled with exchanges, workshops, and initiatives highlighted the dynamism and commitment of this generation.

The summit commenced at the Anse-La-Raie Youth Centre, where participants from all corners of the island transformed the space into a vibrant hub of enthusiasm. Laughter, colors, and collective energy set the tone immediately. The day featured a leadership and employability conference led by Nina Bagha, director of DNB International Business School. Her insightful advice inspired the youth to dream big and lead with purpose.

In a tangible effort, the students took part in a tree planting campaign, symbolizing their commitment to a greener future. They planted not just trees, but hope, responsibility, and ecological awareness. The first day was marked as a lively, participatory summit focused squarely on action.

The following day, the program took a significant institutional dimension with its official opening at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, attended by Ajay Gunness, Minister of National Infrastructure, and Robert Hungley, Vice President of the Republic. In his speech, Narad Dawoodarry, president of Action Against Global Warming, reminded everyone that this summit was more than just an event: "It is a commitment. Mauritius is ready to build a resilient future with its youth at the center."

Minister Gunness detailed governmental initiatives to enhance climate resilience, emphasizing the necessity of youth engagement. Vice President Hungley highlighted the importance of partnership between the state and the youth, encouraging everyone to be agents of change and to make their voices heard.

The day included workshops, citizen debates, and political simulations on key themes such as Drugs & Society, Climate & Economy, Public Health, Biodiversity & Sustainable Land Management. Each session allowed participants to develop critical thinking skills, argue, and propose concrete solutions.

The third and final day offered immersive experiences in nature, alongside Reef Conservation, where participants explored marine ecosystems, discovering the fragility and beauty of Mauritius' lagoons. The Dragon Boat expedition fostered teamwork and cohesion, providing an intense moment of communion with the ocean and personal growth.

In closing, Narad Dawoodarry delivered an inspiring message to the attendees: "Leave with precious memories, lasting friendships, and newfound inner strength. Become agents of change, determined guardians of our environment."

The Youth Summit 2025 thus demonstrated that change begins with the youth. Three days of energy, initiative, and reflection showed that Mauritius can count on a generation ready to act, protect, and transform the future.
