At Plaisance Airport: Rs 14.5 Million Worth of Cocaine Seized from Brazilian Smuggler
A significant drug seizure took place at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in Plaisance. Cocaine valued at Rs 14.5 million was intercepted from a 30-year-old Brazilian smuggler. He arrived in Mauritius on Friday, December 19, coming from São Paulo with a connecting flight through Johannesburg.
Due to effective profiling, officers from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS) of the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA), in collaboration with the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (Adsu), conducted a search of the suspect. The search revealed 970 grams of cocaine hidden in several packets taped to the smuggler's legs.
The investigation was subsequently handed over to the anti-drug brigade, supervised by ASP Goinden and Chief Inspector Parsad.
