Sachitanand Ramdhonee Wins the 2025 Continental Teacher of the Year Award from the African Union

Sachitanand Ramdhonee, 39, was awarded the 2025 Continental Teacher of the Year Award from the African Union on October 3rd in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This prestigious continental recognition honors his commitment and contributions to the education sector.

A resident of Belvedere in Lallmatie, he has been teaching for fifteen years, specializing in Design and Technology. He is currently assigned to Sir Abdool Razack Mohamed State Secondary School in Port Louis. Over the years, he has distinguished himself through his professionalism and dedication to teaching his subject.

The award was the result of a rigorous selection process involving an evaluation phase followed by an interview. This selection took place amidst strong competition on the continental scale, with the African Union comprising 55 member countries, including Mauritius. Mr. Ramdhonee was officially informed of his selection via email by the organization responsible for the award.

As part of this recognition, the African Union sponsored his travel to the institution's headquarters, where he officially received this award during a ceremony dedicated to the winners.
