Taxation - Product Taxes: Rs 105.31 Billion Expected in 2025

Since 2022, the increase in tax revenues from products has accelerated, rising from Rs 70.95 billion to Rs 94.3 billion in 2024, with an adjusted estimate of Rs 105.31 billion for 2025, according to the latest data released by Statistics Mauritius this month. Additionally, net taxes on production and imports are projected to reach Rs 108.49 billion this year.

The rise in net taxes on production and imports is primarily driven by product taxes - such as VAT, excise duties, and import duties - which are expected to generate over Rs 108.08 billion alone. Meanwhile, state subsidies are decreasing. Similarly, other production taxes, such as road tax, business licenses, and municipal taxes, will decrease compared to 2024.

Net taxes on production and imports are expected to rise from Rs 97.74 billion in 2024 to Rs 108.49 billion in 2025, according to forecasts from the Ministry of Finance.
