[Christmas and New Year Message] President Gokhool Calls for Optimism for 2026: "Resilience and Courage are Part of Our DNA"

In his Christmas and New Year message delivered Thursday evening to the Mauritian people and the diaspora, the President of the Republic, Dharam Gokhool, reaffirmed his commitment to staying close to the population and taking decisive action on major national issues, aiming to build a more equitable, just, and prosperous future for the Republic and the Nation.

The President emphasized the government's ongoing efforts to meet the aspirations and needs of citizens, commending the development of the Strategic Vision 2050. He also reminded everyone that democratic principles and freedom continue to be fully respected in Mauritius.

Reflecting on the year 2025, Dharam Gokhool highlighted progress made in key sectors such as global business, finance, information technology, and tourism, while encouraging a strengthening of activities in industry, agro-industry, the blue economy, and the circular economy.

However, the President warned of upcoming challenges: socio-economic pressures, environmental threats, energy crises, cybercrime, and an aging population. He believes that these issues can be overcome through the resilience and solidarity of all Mauritians.

Stating that proximity to the people is a central principle of his presidency, Dharam Gokhool mentioned that his administration prioritizes direct dialogue with all segments of society. To this end, around 10,000 individuals – including children, students, young adults, seniors, NGOs, and people with disabilities – have been welcomed at the State House.

Key initiatives of the Presidency include promoting equality and inclusion, combating drug abuse and trafficking, and safeguarding social values. Initiatives have also been established to leverage technology and innovation for social progress and enhance Mauritius's international visibility through strategic partnerships.

The President urged the population to adopt a healthy lifestyle to maintain their physical and mental well-being. In this context, the establishment of a Health Track at the State House was announced. "We must remain optimistic about our future. Pessimism would be fatal for our Republic. Resilience and courage are part of our DNA," concluded Dharam Gokhool.
