Road Safety: Point System, Heavy Fines, and Imprisonment: Changes Coming in 2026

The legal framework for road safety in Mauritius is set for a significant overhaul. With the upcoming proclamation of several sections of the Road Traffic (Amendment) Act 2025, the government is reintroducing the points system for driving licenses and significantly tightening penalties for dangerous behaviors on the road. These new measures will come into effect on January 1, 2026, following the approval of the President of the Republic.
