Five Cases of Mpox Detected in Madagascar: Mauritius Strengthens Health Vigilance and Entry Protocols
The regional health situation is drawing the attention of Mauritian authorities. On December 30, Madagascar confirmed five cases of mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) in the city of Mahajanga, located in the northwest of the country. These are the first officially detected cases on Malagasy territory, according to a statement from the Minister of Health, Monira Managna, following confirmation by the LA2M laboratory and the Pasteur Institute of Madagascar.
The government is responding by enhancing health vigilance and tightening entry protocols to mitigate the spread of the virus.
