"She Will Pay More Than Maduro": Donald Trump Threatens Interim President Delcy Rodriguez

On Sunday, January 4, Donald Trump threatened Venezuela's interim leader, Delcy Rodriguez, with a fate worse than that of ousted President Nicolas Maduro, who was captured and extradited by U.S. forces and is now facing trial in New York, having spent the night in jail.

"If she doesn't do the right thing, she will pay a very high price, probably higher than Maduro," the American president told The Atlantic regarding the Venezuelan vice president, to whom his country's Supreme Court has entrusted interim power. "The country is completely bankrupt," he stated.

Following months of strikes against vessels accused of drug trafficking, the U.S. executed a dramatic kidnapping operation on Saturday to capture 63-year-old Nicolas Maduro and his 69-year-old wife, Cilia Flores, who are accused of "narcoterrorism."

"We will judge all they do"
Commenting on this meticulously planned operation, Donald Trump stated on Saturday that the U.S. would now "lead" the 30 million-strong nation, adding that he would be ready to send ground troops and launch a "second wave" of attacks.

However, his Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, worked on Sunday to temper these remarks, emphasizing that Washington was counting on Delcy Rodriguez and other current leaders to meet American demands.

"If they don't make the right decisions, the U.S. will retain many leverage points to ensure the protection of our interests, including the oil embargo. Therefore, we will judge, going forward, we will judge all they do," he warned.

In Venezuela, the military recognizes Delcy Rodriguez as interim president, stated Defense Minister General Vladimir Padrino Lopez, who called on his compatriots to return to normal life.
