Beau-Bassin Prison: 33-Year-Old Inmate Found Dead in Cell

Louis Jérémie Frédérick Ditjacques, a 33-year-old inmate, was found dead in his cell at Beau-Bassin Prison yesterday around 7:30 PM by a guard during his rounds. Initial investigations suggest there were no visible signs of violence on his body. An autopsy scheduled for Tuesday, January 6, 2026, is expected to provide more clarity regarding the cause of death.

Earlier that day, Louis Jérémie Frédérick Ditjacques had appeared in the Mapou District Court for an assault case, where he was sentenced to 55 days in prison and was due to be released on February 9.
