Vacoas: Man Steals Sister's Jewelry and Car

A 33-year-old man stole his sister's jewelry and car on the night of January 5, 2026. The police arrested him just hours after the woman filed a theft complaint at the Vacoas police station.

The 35-year-old complainant had visited her mother in Vacoas on January 5. She parked her car outside the family home, which contained jewelry valued at approximately Rs 540,000. The complainant reported that the car went missing sometime between midnight and 5 AM, along with her jewelry. She suspects her brother may be involved in the theft, as he has a spare set of keys to the vehicle.

The Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU) from the central region and the DCIU from Port-Louis North took charge of the case. The stolen vehicle was located in Roche-Bois, with the 31-year-old suspect behind the wheel. He was apprehended and taken to the police station. Jewelry, including bracelets, rings, and chains with pendants, hidden in a cardboard box in the glove compartment, was found in the car.

The jewelry and car were seized by the Vacoas criminal police. The suspect is currently in custody and faces a provisional charge of theft.
