Chagos Deal: Amendments Adopted After Heated Debates in the House of Lords

The Diego Garcia Military Base and British Indian Ocean Territory Bill was thoroughly examined during the Report Stage in the House of Lords on Monday, January 5th. This stage allowed the Lords to propose significant amendments and clarify certain provisions of the bill. The session was marked by vigorous debates, several votes, and the adoption of five amendments (1, 19, 33, 47, and 50), while Amendment 32, which called for a referendum among the Chagos Islanders, was rejected.
