Henry Jardine Bids Farewell to Mauritius After Three Years in Office

On Wednesday, January 7, the United States Ambassador to Mauritius, Henry Jardine, hosted a farewell gathering at MacCarthy House in Floréal. He praised the professionalism of Mauritian journalists, particularly during the 2024 elections.

Arriving in February 2023, he stated that he was warmly welcomed and took advantage of his term to explore the country, meet communities, and participate in numerous events in Mauritius and Rodrigues, accompanied by his wife Kathleen and their son Thomas.

His tenure was marked by strengthened bilateral relations, highlighted by the construction of the new embassy complex and the reopening of the U.S. mission in Seychelles. Security cooperation and combating financial crime were priorities, as was economic development: Mauritius is set to be a strategic platform towards Africa and India and will host the U.S.–Africa Business Summit in 2026.

Henry Jardine also emphasized the cultural and human richness of Mauritius and assured that his deputy, Craig Meyer, will continue the diplomatic mission, ensuring continuity in relations. He leaves the island with gratitude and affection.
